Shalom is a word hard to translate.  The total meaning is very hard to express in English.

Shalom means total well being.

Shalom is not possible if we are hiding anger, wrath, hurt, disappointment.

Shalom, total -- complete -- well being, comes in attitudes that align with the Word of God.  Let go of the bitterness and disappointments; set yourself free!

Forgiveness

2Ch:30:9: For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.

M't:5:24: Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

M't:5:44: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

M't:18:21: Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

a cup of... Anticipation

Living Water

O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. - Psalm 95:1

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise:  be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.  For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. - Psalm 100:4-5

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. - Psalm 122:1

Thirst-quenching thought for the day

Some call it "the Sabbath blues."  After a late Saturday night, Sunday morning comes too early, and the prospect of getting up, dressing up, and showing up for church seems very unappealing.  Yet we often drag ourselves (and our families) there and force ourselves to go through the motions of worship.

According to these psalms, however, church services should be occasions of joy where we fill the air with thankful praise.  We should have a sense of anticipation as we prepare to gather in God's presence.

This positive, joyful attitude comes from realizing that God is good, that His love is deep, strong, and personal, and that He is faithful and true.

Understanding that God loves us, remembering what He has done for us, and knowing that we are His people should make us want to shout and sing with joy.  What a great God we have!

Sip to take away

Next Sunday, approach worship with thanksgiving and praise.  Take time on Saturday to anticipate meeting with other believers.

a cup of... Adoption by God

Living Water

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. - Romans 8:16

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:  therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not.  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. - I John 3:1-2

Thirst-quenching thought for the day

We can call ourselves children of God!  Through the work of Christ and our faith in Him, we have been born again and adopted into God's family.  No wonder the world does not know us---we've changed!

If God has chosen to make us His children now, just think of what He will do for us in the future!  Through John, God says that we will be like Christ, fully bearing the family likeness.

What love!
What a life!
What a plan!
What a future!

Sip to take away

Regardless of what the world thinks, you are special.  Regardless of your status in society, you are a member of God's family.  Regardless of pessimistic predictions, your future is bright.  Christ has made you a child of God.

Sacrificial Love

AFTER A FEW OF THE USUAL SUNDAY EVENING HYMNS, THE CHURCH'S PASTOR SLOWLY STOOD UP, WALKED OVER TO THE PULPIT AND, BEFORE HE GAVE HIS SERMON FOR THE EVENING, BRIEFLY INTRODUCED A GUEST MINISTER WHO WAS IN THE SERVICE THAT EVENING. IN THE INTRODUCTION, THE PASTOR TOLD THE CONGREGATION THAT THE GUEST MINISTER WAS ONE OF HIS DEAREST CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND THAT HE WANTED HIM TO HAVE A FEW MOMENTS TO GREET THE CHURCH AND SHARE WHATEVER HE FELT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE SERVICE.

WITH THAT, AN ELDERLY MAN STEPPED UP TO THE PULPIT AND BEGAN TO SPEAK.

"A FATHER, HIS SON, AND A FRIEND OF HIS SON WERE SAILING OFF THE PACIFIC COAST," HE BEGAN, "WHEN A FAST APPROACHING STORM BLOCKED ANY ATTEMPT TO GET BACK TO THE SHORE. THE WAVES WERE SO HIGH, THAT EVEN THOUGH THE FATHER WAS AN EXPERIENCED SAILOR, HE COULD NOT KEEP THE BOAT UPRIGHT AND THE THREE WERE SWEPT INTO THE OCEAN AS THE BOAT CAPSIZED."

THE OLD MAN HESITATED FOR A MOMENT, MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH TWO TEENAGERS WHO WERE, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE SERVICE BEGAN, LOOKING SOMEWHAT INTERESTED IN HIS STORY. THE AGED MINISTER CONTINUED WITH HIS STORY, "GRABBING A RESCUE LINE, THE FATHER HAD TO MAKE THE MOST EXCRUCIATING DECISION OF HIS LIFE:

TO WHICH BOY HE WOULD THROW THE OTHER END OF THE LIFE LINE. HE ONLY HAD SECONDS TO MAKE THE DECISION. THE FATHER KNEW THAT HIS SON WAS A CHRISTIAN AND HE ALSO KNEW THAT HIS SON'S FRIEND WAS NOT. THE AGONY OF HIS DECISION COULD NOT BE MATCHED BY THE TORRENT OF WAVES. "AS THE FATHER YELLED OUT, 'I LOVE YOU, SON!' HE THREW OUT THE LIFE LINE TO HIS SON'S FRIEND.

BY THE TIME THE FATHER HAD PULLED THE FRIEND BACK TO THE CAPSIZED BOAT, HIS SON HAD DISAPPEARED BENEATH THE RAGING SWELLS INTO THE BLACK OF NIGHT. HIS BODY WAS NEVER RECOVERED."

BY THIS TIME, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE SITTING UP STRAIGHT IN THE PEW, ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR THE NEXT WORDS TO COME OUT OF THE OLD MINISTER'S MOUTH.

"THE FATHER," HE CONTINUED, "KNEW HIS SON WOULD STEP INTO ETERNITY WITH JESUS AND HE COULD NOT BEAR THE THOUGHT OF HIS SON'S FRIEND STEPPING INTO AN ETERNITY WITHOUT JESUS. THEREFORE, HE SACRIFICED HIS SON TO SAVE THE SON'S FRIEND. HOW GREAT IS THE LOVE OF GOD THAT HE SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR US.

OUR HEAVENLY FATHER SACRIFICED HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WE COULD BE SAVED. I URGE YOU TO ACCEPT HIS OFFER TO RESCUE YOU AND TAKE A HOLD OF THE LIFE LINE HE IS THROWING OUT TO YOU IN THIS SERVICE."

WITH THAT, THE OLD MAN TURNED AND SAT BACK DOWN IN HIS CHAIR AS SILENCE FILLED THE ROOM.

THE PASTOR AGAIN WALKED SLOWLY TO THE PULPIT AND DELIVERED A BRIEF SERMON WITH AN INVITATION AT THE END. HOWEVER, NO ONE RESPONDED TO THE APPEAL. WITHIN MINUTES AFTER THE SERVICE ENDED, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE AT THE OLD MAN'S SIDE.

"THAT WAS A NICE STORY," POLITELY STATED ONE OF THE BOYS, "BUT I DON'T THINK IT WAS VERY REALISTIC FOR A FATHER TO GIVE UP HIS ONLY SON'S LIFE IN HOPES THAT THE OTHER BOY WOULD BECOME A CHRISTIAN."

"WELL, YOU'VE GOT A POINT THERE," THE OLD MAN REPLIED, GLANCING DOWN AT HIS WORN BIBLE.

A BIG SMILE BROADENED HIS NARROW FACE, HE ONCE AGAIN LOOKED UP AT THE BOYS AND SAID, "IT SURE ISN'T VERY REALISTIC, IS IT? BUT I'M STANDING HERE TODAY TO TELL YOU THAT STORY GIVES ME A GLIMPSE OF WHAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR GOD TO GIVE UP HIS SON FOR ME.

YOU SEE --- I WAS THAT FATHER AND YOUR PASTOR IS MY SON'S FRIEND."

Praise the Lord saints!  I truly love the Lord.  He is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.  Yes saints, I'm blessed.  I'm blessed because the blood is still running warm in my veins.  Because he woke me up this morning clothed in my right mind.  I'm blessed because I still have the use and activities of my limbs.  I'm blessed because I have food on my table, I have clothes on my back.  I'm blessed because when it seem like I'm stuck in a rut with no way out, Jesus comes along and makes a way out of no way.  He's a doctor when I need him and yes He IS a WONDERFUL COUNSELOR.  When I have no one to turn or talk to, when I feel like I'm all alone in this world.  Here comes Jesus to my rescue and comforts me when I need to be comforted.  He answers all of my questions...he talks to me...He truly loves me.  I found out that I didn't know what love was until I met Jesus.  He's just so beautiful and just truly amazing.  My soul truly loves the Lord.  I'm blessed most of all because Jesus loved me enough to come into my life and saved me from the fiery pits of hell.  He SAVED ME, SANCTIFIED ME, BAPTIZED AND FILLED ME WITH HIS PRECIOUS HOLY GHOST.  Pray for me that I grow stronger in the Lord!

I just want to point out that most of the time while we're admiring and coveting what someone else has, we miss out on our own blessing and what God has for US.  We see someone else get blessed and start to want what they have or get jealous over another sister or brother's blessing!  That should not be.  We should rejoice with our brothers and sisters.

My sisters and brothers, God has something unique and special for YOU!   What He has for YOU is for no one else but YOU!  However, you won't be able to walk in your blessing and receive what He has for you, until you began to seek His face...  Before the foundation of the world, God knew you and He has a plan for your life.  Only He can give you the answers you need...

Let's start to get the mind that says "I want what God has for me!"

Love in Christ,
I Luv Jesus
